Dr.Raman Kalia
M.Sc Nursing PhD

Director Principal

Raman Kalia Graduated in Nursing in 1984, from College of Nursing PGI, and Worked for 10 years as Staff Nurse in the Pediatric Surgery Operation Theater. Worked in a research project funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi for one year. She did Post graduation in nursing in 1993, in the speciality of Medical Surgical Nursing, secured first position in Punjab University. The thesis entitled “Evaluation of performance of patients in carrying out the taught technique of clean intermittent urethral catheterization” was awarded the best thesis in the university. Seventeen years of teaching experience, at national Institute of Nursing Education PGI Chandigarh, Doctorate in Pediatric Surgery in 2003 at PGIMER thesis entitled “Development of educational aids for parents of children having colostomy and/or fecal incontinence” special areas of interest are Family care, Rehabilitation therapies Management of children having congenital anomalies at home. Awarded WHO fellowship of one month duration in Children day Care at Bangkok, Thailand, June 2007. Participated in various national and International nursing conferences, Publications- Published 30 papers in the nursing Journals.   

  Faculty of the institute are a blend of knowledge and experience in the field of nursing they had their education from reputed institutes of the country and work very hard to provide quality nursing education to the students.  Teacher student ratio is 1:10 as prescribed by INC

Classroom
This institute has a very magnificent building with spacious class rooms, These well ventilated classrooms and lecture halls are equipped with LCD projectors, Over head projectors etc .to provide students a comfortable learning environment.

Multipurpose Hall
Saraswati institute has a big multipurpose hall to accommodate 300 students all the academic, extracurricular activities, major festivals and functions are celebrated in the hall.

Laboratories
All the laboratories are well equipped as per Indian Nursing Council (INC) norms. Saraswati institute has modern state of the art laboratories having full size dummies for teaching mock patient care by way of demonstrations to the students, Obstetric and Gynae lab, Community Health, Anatomy and Nutrition laboratories have been set up to facilitate practical training of the students.

The institute has set up a well equipped computer lab along with internet networking for the students full time computer teacher has been employed .in the campus is fitted with internet connections.

Library
The library has a large collection of latest books in all subjects and specialties of nursing, national and international journals are being subscribed regularly. Newspapers, Magazines and periodicals are also subscribed. E-library functions in collaboration with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot

Clinical Facility
In order to provide quality supervised clinical experience to students, attachment has been obtained from the various Government and reputed corporate hospitals, as follows:
  • Civil Hospital, Ropar,
  • Civil Hospital, kharar
  • Civil Hospital, Phase 6,Mohali
  • Ivy Hospital, Mohali.
  • Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital Sector16 Chandigarh,
  • Mata Kaushalya Hospital Patiala
  • Vidya Sagar Mental Hospital Amritsar
The students are accompanied by the teachers while getting clinical experience in these hospitals. They get skilled practices by giving care to patients in all clinical areas of the hospital under the constant supervision of their teachers. For getting rural and urban community health nursing experience, students are posted in the nearby Health Centers as approved by Director General Health Services, Punjab. They are posted at various primary & community health centers of the district Mohali and Ropar. The clinical experience is organized and completed as per Indian Nursing Council and BFUHS, Faridkot norms. Teacher student ratio 1:10

Community Training
In order to provide quality supervised community health nursing experience to students, attachment has been obtained from the various community and primary health centres: Community Health centre, Kurali, Primary Health Centre, Gharuan, Primary Health Centre, Bhootgarh The institute organizes various community services where students participated
